Conan to Visit Finland

For the past few months, Conan O’Brien has been making repeated fodder of his resemblance to Finland’s first female president Tarja Halonen. Now comes the news that Conan will be once again taking his show on the road — this time to meet his look-alike world leader.

Celebrity PBB Premiere Date

As of post time, the premiere of the Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity edition will be on the 4th of February. There are already rumored cast members. I will post their names here as soon as I confirm them. Just stay tuned.

So the rumors might be right! The next Pinoy Big Brother this February will be a Celebrity Edition and then in the summer, it will be a Teen Edition. Got a text message from a very reliable source that auditions are already held for both editions. In fact, for interested teenagers (18-19 years old), you may audition tomorrow. Just go to ABS and “bring your pictures: close-up, medium, and full body.”

Personally, I’d rather have only one PBB season a year and featuring regular contestants. There’s a thing called overkill, you know. But then again, we never know. I mean it’s only in the Philippines that Big Brother is seen more as a charity and talent show than a reality competition.

ABC has just announced that it is cancelling the show Alias, the series that launched Jennifer Garner’s career as a kick-ass leading lady. It is still airing its fifth season in the US. The order for the complete 22 episodes will be fulfilled when it goes back on air in January.

“Lost” Death

The episode in which another Lost character will die is airing in the US. The second season is yet to start airing in any of the channels here inthe Philippines. In fact, Studio 23 just started airing the first season last Monday, November 7.

I’m tyring to keep myself from going through message boards and spoiler sites for wanting to keep it such a surprise. Although, a few hours down the road, I may be singing a different tune.

Iron Chef America on Lifestyle Network

I just adore the original Japanese Iron Chef. It used to be on the cable channel etc and now it’s on RPN 9 at 7pm on Wednesdays. When it was shown by the Food Network in the US, it became such a cult hit that it had several incarnations.

Lifestyle Network is now showing the current season of Iron Chef America on Saturday nights. This edition has Good Eats host Alton Brown as the host together with Filipino-blooded Mark Dacascos as the Kitchen Stadium chairman. The Iron Chefs in this edition are Mario Batali, Bobby Flay and Morimoto.

Col. Hogan and Agent 86 back-to-back

Star World, an entertainment channel on cable and satellite, has started showing classic American television shows Hogan’s Heroes and Get Smart on Sunday mornings at 9 o’clock. They’re showing them in the original B&W.

Incidentally, Don Adams, the actor who played Maxwell Smart – Agent 86, died a month ago (September 25). He also voiced the Inspector Gadget character in cartoons.

Prior to stumbling upon the broadcasts three weeks ago, I’ve only heard of these shows from articles and other writings on television. This is the first time that I am seeing either series. I finally know who Col. Klink is!

AXN has acquired the franchise for The Amazing Race for Asia and Central Europe. This means that the program will now be localized for the viewers of the region. The Channel News Asia article, mentions that the target launch is the second half of 2006.

There are no details on the mechanics as to who are eligible to participate and the how and when of the auditions. Feedback is requested to be coursed through feedback@axn-asia.com
